What the studies tested

Results from growing trials, many of them in commercial greenhouses. They are not care instructions.

Care

Feeding

  • Seedlings fed weekly for 14 weeks in 15-cm pots grew about as well at 350 as at 700 ppm nitrogen; above 700 ppm fresh weight fell, and at 1,700 ppm growth was greatly reduced.

A Measured directlyMeasured on this species

  • Plants moved into 3–90 L containers graded higher the more Osmocote 18N-2.6P-9.8K they got (1.2–9.6 g per litre of container every 6 months), in every container size.

Propagation

  • Seed covered at twice its diameter emerged at 80–91 % in five media; covered at four times its diameter it emerged more slowly and, in two of the media, at only 18–22 %.
